The Arena movie theater was awarded the cinema price of the city of Munich in 2011 and 2014 (and is awarded by the Federal Minister of Culture for his special program annually)
The Jury citation from 2011:
The Arena has written a success story among his two operators Christian Pfeil and Markus Eisele, which probably without installing the second hall - would hardly have occurred - with 38 seats, the smallest cinema in Munich. Was the traditional cinema from 1912, always at risk under previous shareholders due to lack of profitability, the two successors managed the turnaround with a differentiated space and a matching program that included the children's film school performances up to bulky art films -. Such as Gaspar Noé three hours Filmstrip "Enter the Void" - shows everything that comes in Glockenbacharea on interest. So, this movie could reach the only double-digit increase in visitors in the crisis year 2010 without having to make at the Program Quality any compromise.
Special activities - ranging from participation in the art of film weeks and film tour of award-European Lux Prize titles such Feo Aladag's "The Brave One" to a series of "attraction and distance" on the Germans in the Czech film - giving the cinema a paint of the Bold, which come upon reciprocal love. It remains to be seen to what extent the personal charm of the two young entrepreneurs participates also the secret of this success. That both can also be found a willingness to take risks - such as the planned for August 2011 opening of a new cinema with three halls near the Nordbad proves - the jury is one more reason the Arena movie theater operation GmbH concede a cinema price 2011th
